Hello, my name is Mariana Arroyo
That´s my sign name because I love horses.
I am from Mexico, in the state called state of Mexico, which’s near Mexico City.
All my life, I had never use sign language, only reading the lip and speaking.
When I entered Gallaudet In spring 2019, I was overwhelmed, but that time I was in English Language Institute to learn ASL and to improve my English.
I became a member of ELISO (English Language Institute Student Organization). I enjoyed and supported to ELISO.
In Fall 2019, I became president of ELISO, I was surprised, and I was nervous because it was my first time as president. Also, I had been accepted for undergraduate in Gallaudet.
I had a lot of mistakes as president, but then I learned a lot, my skill of leadership improves a lot.
A year after, I became vice-president of ELISO to support this organization still because I really cared about it.
In Fall 2020, I noticed that most of the organizations are like a group, and there is no for me.
So I discussed it with my best friend, and then we decided to establish a new organization called Global Student Association. The goal is to have both US and international students come together.
This spring of 2021 was established, and now I am the first president of GLSA. My goal is to make sure that American and international students can to socialite and become as united.
I really love to support people and to see them and successful.
