First National Deaf People of Color
Conference 2007
The first national Deaf People of Color Conference was held in Indianapolis from March 29 to April 1, and was both a first-of-its-kind and a triumphant success. It represented over a year of careful planning by a coalition of representatives of major organizations of Deaf people of color. The action-packed schedule included an all-day "Pre-Conference Institute," with participation from a group of ISD students, workshops, discussions, networking, brainstorming, dialogue, socializing, friendship, and fun. Participants came away with a better understanding of the challenges and frustrations facing Deaf people of color, and the determination to effect positive changes.
